I'm so excited to share more details about my version of Folk Blooms by Pen and Paper Patterns. I fell in love with this pretty floral quilt several years ago and it's been a long standing WIP (work in progress).
This quilt will always be extra special to me, because I was actively working on it when I went into labor with my 3rd child! I will say, sewing through contractions does not improve accuracy, haha! There was definitely some seam ripping that happened once I pulled it out again postpartum.
It's been the if-I-have-time project I take with me to retreats and at my last sewing day with friends, its time finally did come! Let's just pretend I didn't accidentally flip one of the blocks when I was sewing the rows together and fail to notice until after it was quilted. Oh well. It blends in pretty well.
I used all Kona cotton solids from Pear Tree Market (they're my favorite fabric shop!) in the colors: Foxglove, Meringue, Ice Peach, Shell, and Orchid with a Snow background.
Jaree from Girl Gone Quilting did the longarming and we decided on Beaded Knit for the pantograph. We did Shannon Cuddle Minky on the back in the color Woodrose. I bound it with a Gingham designed by Minki Kim for Riley Blake in the color Amethyst from my stash. It ended up being a perfect match to the minky on the back and the Foxglove in the quilt, which was a happy accident!
When I bind quilts with minky backings, I like to sew the binding to the back of the quilt first, then fold it over to the front and stitch in place either by hand or machine. In this case, I hand bound it by stitching it with an invisible binding stitch on the front. I've found that doing it this way makes it a little easier to deal with the minky.
Once the quilt was finished up, it was gifted to my Mother-in-Law for Christmas. She's a master gardener, who loves pastel colors, so it felt like a good one for her!
